Hungarian operators start mobile broadband offer for rural areas

The Hungarian ICT agency Kifu announced a new service called SZIP Mobil to bring faster broadband to areas not served by the fixed network. Households can subscribe to a subsidised mobile broadband subscription from any of the three mobile operators under the offer.

The services are delivered over the 4G network with speeds of 30 Mbps under a subscription contract. Customers can check where the subsidies are available online or with the operators. Operators may also install an external antenna to strengthen the mobile signal for customers.

Magyar Telekom offers the equipment free if customers take a two-year contract. The service costs HUF 5,600 per month and is subject to a geographic limitation at the home address and a fair-use policy of 30 GB per day.

Telenor Hungary uses the same fair-use limit, after which the speed is cut to 1 Mbps. It charges HUF 10,990 for the service and also offers the equipment free with a two-year contract. Vodafone charges the same price, with a limit of 200 GB per month at the same speed. The LTE router costs HUF 31,500.
